Removing an Accuscan whole body counter from St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin

We always love the opportunity to work on something a little unusual; this time, thanks to St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin we were asked to remove an Accuscan whole body counter.

Installed after the Chernobyl disaster to identify and quantify radioactivity inside the human body, after 30+ years in service it was time to finally say goodbye.

Originally delivered into a purpose built room below ground level, since then the hospital has built over and around it so removing the system wasn’t quite as easy as the guys in the photo make it look during the install process.
